Flower Power
Our Mercury comes from the "Flower Power" era.
Hence the spot this morning on the way to work was perfect to take a picture.

The local farmer who owns the tulip field even painted the barrel holding the moneybox in "Mercury Blue"!

Summertime- Holidaytime
Our Team in Andover is currently weakened by members on Holidays.

Hence nothing new on the Parts front
even though quite a few Projects are in their final Stages.

Meanwhile you can read about our "Jake", the "3 Cylinder Commando"
in the August Issue of "Classic Bike".

Mick Duckworth has done his homework, as usual, and found out Things we, proud Owners of the Engine for over three Decades, did not know yet.

The engine was bought in the early 1980s, definitely before 1985. There was a short Mention in MCN about a Mr.Joe Seifert acquiring that Prototype Engine at the time. Richard Negus built the bike as a Farewell Present before he retired form our other Company, Norton Motors Ltd. An interesting Exercise that makes a very rideable One-Off.

The only Norton History currently available. Norton Motorcycles 1950 - 1986
Reprint of Steve Wilson's book "Norton Motor Cycles from 1950 to 1986"
No Norton history is currently available.

We have therefore reprinted Steve Wilson's book,
which spans the era that is of most interest for the great majority of Norton aficionados today.

The text and pictures were originally part of Wilson's "British Motorcycles" series of books
that covered the British post-war manufacturers.

Wilson's book stands out in that it not only covers the Norton models built in the post-war era,
but furthermore tells what went on behind the factory doors.

It covers key personnel as well as economical factors in the background that often have more influence on what comes off the production line than the average motorcyclist realizes!

When I first read the book I learned a lot about Norton that I had not known before, even though I was professionally involved with the factory and knew many of the key figures mentioned personally.

Intermediate Shaft Support Plate Tool

Rather than cutting a timing cover up as suggested in old workshop manuals this tool locates the intermediate spindle so timing chain tension can be pre-set accurately before the timing cover is fitted.

This tool is supplied with spacers and screws to fit both Dominator and Commando engines.

March 2013
Retirement of our Managing Director, Nick Hopkins
Typical Picture of Nick at Work.
Nick started with Andover Norton when it was founded in June, 1977, and has worked for the company from Day1. An impressive stretch with the same employer that few, if any of us, can equal.

We wish Nick a happy and healthy retirement and hope we can rely on him and his knowledge, at least part-time, in the future.
Nick says: "After almost 5 decades in the motorcycle industry (I started with BSA in the Service Department at Armoury Road in 1966) I have finally reached the point at which “I want to spend more time with my bikes”. To say that it has been an interesting journey is an understatement, and at times the ride has been a rather bumpy one but while the mainstream motorcycle business is going through difficult times at the moment the classic side of things is keeping us very busy indeed. It is a privilege to have been a part of the scene for so long, and I will miss my daily contact with customers worldwide but I will be thinking of you as I fettle (and maybe even ride?) my Commando and other Nortons."
